The nine (9) hectare orchard located at Tierra Nevada Tinambac Camarines Sur is just one hour drive from Naga City and a good jump off point for mountaineers climbing Mount Isarog. It is a family farm where variety of local and imported fruit trees are intercropped with coconut trees which are sporadically planted all over the farm.
As of today the farm is already planted with 43 kinds of fruit bearing plants with more than 800 plants in all. Below is the list of all plants already existing at The Orchard @ Tierra Nevada. There is no orchard in Naga City and in Camarines Sur. Based on my interview with fruit vendors , the fruits in Naga City mostly come from backyard farming in Camarines Sur and from the big farms in Davao and Laguna. There are five major fruits in Camarines Sur : Banana, Papaya, pineapple and calamansi and mango
The Philippine Statistcis issued MAJOR FRUITS SITUATIONER in January 2018 . “Production of major fruits increases from 2015 to 2016 The production of major fruits in the province increased from 2015 to 2016. Banana, which is the number one fruit commodity in the province in terms of production, grew by 1.77 percent from the 2015 level of 33,938.75 metric tons to 34,538.95 metric tons in 2016. Papaya production posted a 1.49 percent growth from 4,260.27 metric tons in 2015 to 4,323.71 metric tons in 2016. Pineapple production recorded an increase of 3.69 percent from 2,724.10 metric tons in 2015 to 2,824.73 metric tons in 2016. Production of calamansi was estimated at 475.78 metric tons in 2016 which was 1.65 percent higher than 2015 output of 468.06 metric tons. An increase of 6.37 percent was observed in the volume of production of mango in 2016 with 132.34 metric tons against the 2015 level of 124.41 metric tons.”Strategy:
The Orchard of Tierra Nevada has 45 different kinds of fruit trees, it will no longer expand its production on the 5 major fruits produced in Cam sur to avoid competition, rather it will concentrate on other fruits not mentioned by Philippine Statistics Authority(PSA) .
Although there are organic vegetable growers in Camarines and Naga City we cannot find organic vegetables in the market. The people have to go to the farms to buy fresh organic vegetables. The Orchard of Tierra Nevada will deliver fresh organic fruits and vegetables to markets and will also accept order online.
A signage will be erected on the roadside going to the farm, that will also serve as landmark in Tierra Nevada, invitation for educational tours and on the job training of agri students will be sent to nearby senior high schools and invitation for wellness activities will be sent to offices.
Pick your own fruit will be encourage to walk in customers
Mountaineers will be invited to camp in the farm .The Orchard @Tierra Nevada is the best jump off point of those climbing mount Isarog.
Shinrinyuko or forest bathing, a therapy popular in Japan and Korea will be introduced. There is a mini forest in the farm situated along the river, a very suitable place for shinrinyuko . In preparation for this the owner plans to enroll in shinrinyuko class Japan or new Zealand for accreditation as shinrinyuko coach. As of the present the owner is a licensed massage therapist of Department of health, other therapies that need license or accreditation that the owner will practice is colour , water and magnet therapy and also yoga. Accreditation of mentioned therapies is in India and Australia.
