Quantifiers of nouns

English is my third languange. Although it is an official languange in school and in business in my country, I had not really mastered it

I am happy to attend this communication class today. We call it KASH. Knowledge, Attitude, Skills, Habits in communication. I found out that my English is so inadequate to be a good communicator, like when our facilitator ask as to provide nouns that fit these quantifiers

Pride – lion

Stand – flamingo

Parliament – owls

Bands – brothers

Leap – leopard

Peck-pepper

Bushel – fruit

School-fish

Strands – hair

Troop – monkeys

Herd – cows

Colony – termites

Swarm-bees

Batch- class 2019

So allow me to use these quantifiers in a sentence.😅

The batch 2019 candidates for our coming election in May, both in the congress and in the senate can be divided into the following groups

1. A colony of termites who will slowly destroy the house without the owner knowing it.

2 A Troop of monkeys who love to entertain the visitors with their tricks, but be mindful of your food in your hand for while you are enjoying their tricks, they snatch your food in a snap

3.A Parliament of owls, who goes out at night with the witches

4.A pride of lions always looking for someone to devour

5.And swarm of bees buzzing around

Loving perfectly

How can an imperfect person love perfectly. Seems imposible, but we can give it a try. How? By heeding St Paul’s advice to the Corinthians. How love should be:Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Love never fails.

preparing for retirement

My business plan entitled “the orchard @Tierra Nevada is not just an academic compliance but a plan for my retirement which will happen few years from now.
                                                                                        EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Orchard @ Tierra Nevada is a farm and wellness hub. It will be open to public five years from now ( 2023). The   nine (9) hectare orchard  located at Tierra Nevada Tinambac Camarines Sur  is just  one hour  drive from Naga City and  a good jump off point for mountaineers climbing Mount Isarog.  It is a family farm where variety of local and imported fruit trees are intercropped with coconut trees which are sporadically planted all over the farm.

As of today the farm  is already planted with  43 kinds  of  fruit bearing plants  with more than 800 plants  in all.  Below is the list of all plants already existing at The Orchard @ Tierra Nevada.  The land when inherited by the owner   from his   parents  had existing coconut trees and few mango and pili trees.  It was only in 2011 when the owner started developing the land into an orchard. Planting is continuously done since then ,  the  oldest fruit tree in the farm is 25  years old while the youngest tree is less than a year.  Some are on its fruit bearing stage already like the avocado, atis, lemon, pili  etc while  other trees will bear fruits   years later  like the  dates  and plum from Lebanon, pomegranate from Malaysia and persimmon from Korea.  Additional fruits trees  will be planted this coming years to complete all  kinds of local fruits in the Philippines  including wild and exotic ones. Also,  fruit trees from other countries which can adopt to the climate in the place will be considered .The goal is , there will be fruits that can be harvested every month.

The Orchard @Tierra Nevada is also a wellness hub. A small space will be allocated to a herb garden and organic vegetable garden.  The owner  also   plans to  construct a small swimming  pool where  various therapy  using nature, like sun and color therapy will be done.  There will be some small open hut   , which will be used  as  spa which will offer the traditional hilot, and  massage therapy.  And close huts for those who want to stay overnight and avail of detox and some early morning activities like fitness walk,  yoga and shinrinyuko    in the small man made forest  planted with mahogany and narra situated along the river bank. The visitors will be served fruit juices available in season or  green salads from the organic vegetable farm.

Fruit trees that will be propagated next years: Berba  , aratiles, mabolo, macopa, siniguelas, passion fruit,  bignay, tamarillo, bulala, sapinit, etc

LIST OF COMPETITOR FARMS IN  NAGA CITY  AND NEARBY TOWNS

PROSPECTIVE BUYERS OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLE

  1. FRUIT STANDS IN NAGA CITY Public markets and Plaza Rizal
  2.   PUBLIC MARKET in nearby municipalities such as Tinambac, Goa etc
  3. LCC  Supermarket
  4. WALK IN CUSTOMERS
  5. Specialty stores like Granjeros,  Healing Bread etc

There is no  orchard in Naga City and in  Camarines Sur. Based on my interview with fruit vendors , the fruits in Naga City mostly come from backyard farming  in Camarines Sur  and from the big farms in Davao and Laguna. There are five major fruits  in Camarines Sur : Banana, Papaya, pineapple and calamansi and mango

The Philippine Statistcis issued MAJOR FRUITS SITUATIONER  in January 2018  . “Production of major fruits increases from 2015 to 2016 The production of major fruits in the province increased from 2015 to 2016. Banana, which is the number one fruit commodity in the province in terms of production, grew by 1.77 percent from the 2015 level of 33,938.75 metric tons to 34,538.95 metric tons in 2016. Papaya production posted a 1.49 percent growth from 4,260.27 metric tons in 2015 to 4,323.71 metric tons in 2016. Pineapple production recorded an increase of 3.69 percent from 2,724.10 metric tons in 2015 to 2,824.73 metric tons in 2016. Production of calamansi was estimated at 475.78 metric tons in 2016 which was 1.65 percent higher than 2015 output of 468.06 metric tons. An increase of 6.37 percent was observed in the volume of production of mango in 2016 with 132.34 metric tons against the 2015 level of 124.41 metric tons.”

Strategy:

The Orchard of Tierra Nevada has 45 different kinds of fruit  trees, it will no longer expand  its production on the 5  major fruits produced in Cam sur to avoid competition, rather it will concentrate on other fruits not mentioned by Philippine Statistics Authority(PSA) .

Although there are organic vegetable growers in Camarines and Naga City  we cannot find organic vegetables in the market.  The people have to go to the farms to  buy  fresh organic vegetables. The Orchard  of Tierra Nevada will deliver fresh organic fruits and vegetables to markets and will also accept  order online.

A signage will be erected on the roadside going to the farm, that will also serve as landmark in Tierra Nevada,  invitation for educational tours and on the job training of agri students will be sent to nearby senior high schools  and invitation for wellness activities will be sent to offices.

Pick your own fruit will be encourage to walk in customers

Mountaineers will be invited to camp in the farm .The Orchard @Tierra Nevada is the best jump off point of those climbing mount Isarog.

Shinrinyuko or forest bathing, a therapy popular in Japan and Korea will be introduced. There is a mini forest in the farm situated along the river, a very suitable place for shinrinyuko . In preparation for this the owner plans to enroll in shinrinyuko class  Japan or new Zealand for accreditation as shinrinyuko coach. As of the present the owner is a licensed massage therapist of Department of health, other therapies that need license or accreditation that the owner will practice is colour , water and magnet therapy and also yoga. Accreditation of mentioned therapies is in India and Australia.

What will make You stay in a workplace?

I was wondering why you resigned in a prestigious company with a very competetive salary and perks. I can’t understand because I am in the same industry, but here I am already a loyalty awardee for 30 years, and planning to get my 35th award before I retire.

You said you are not happy with what you are doing. Work is not a picnic, why don’t you treat work as work, that will make weekends something to look forward to . If you are not happy Monday to Friday, there is Saturday and Sunday plus so many holidays and allowable leave of absences where you can travel or do things that makes you happy.

You feel the boss doesn’t like you. Bosses come and go.

You see yourself doing the same thing all the rest of your life. No, you are wrong, the corporate world where you are in is so big and wide, there are plenty of opportunities, don’t be in a hurry to get a promotion. The higher the position the greater the risk and responsibility. You have to be well prepared for it.

That is my perspective, that is the reason I stayed 30years and counting in the office. And I am happy to say, I am happy in my workplace. Not because all is well, but because I resolve to be happy.

How about you, what will make you stay.

Hello 2019

From our family to yours, we wish you a Happy new year🎉😍❤️

This is our traditional family meal every new year, my own creation of sweet spagheti which my husband says it’s the best, store bought cake because I don’t want to bake, it is so time consuming, a bottle of champagne, I prefer the local one, fruit, ham, cheese with a little twist this year. The ham and cheese were arranged in a board and hotdog, chocolate, sausage, crackers and grapes were added.

And we do not forget to say a new year’s prayer before the meal, for me it is the higlight of our family tradition. I wish I can pass this tradition to my children and my children’s children in the future

what to do on delayed and cancelled flight

we finally boarded the Cebu Pacific  after 8  hrs delayed,  we were  expected to arrive in Legazpi City after an hour, it is now 7 pm

November 21, 2018, we were not informed that all flights will be cancelled in the afternoon due to the no fly zone order because the Chinese president is leaving Manila , Philippines after his 2 days visit.  Instead , Cebu Pacific employees just repeatedly  announced that the flight will be delayed, no reason stated.  We patiently waited, anyway Cebu Pacific is known for delayed flights. It is good that internet connection in NAIA is good, so we can do some work on our strama which is due 2 days later. Finally  after 8 hrs in the boarding gate, we are on flight bound to Legazpi.

The flight was smooth, everything okay, we are expected to arrived a little earlier , the pilot announced we are ready for descent,  my seatmate on the window seat is excitedly  telling us , she is now  seing the city lights in Legazpi City, Albay., then a sudden strong turbulence. Then were up again, then another try to land but turbulence is really bad. Up again, the pilot announced that  we are going back to NAIA , we cannot land due to strong tail wind, and it is for our safety. So that means we  have fly another 1 hr without reaching our destination. Passengers kept on grumbling , but we remain calm.

when we can still smile after 6 hours delayed flight, 2 hrs in the air, then back to NAIA because the plane cannot land due to strong wind…ah we must have a very high adversity quotient

So what shall we do now, but to book another flight, but the only available is 3 days later, or refund the airfare. We decided to refund and   take the bus next day which means 12 hrs ride.

re book or refund

From our experience this is what we do on our delayed and later cancelled flight.

  1. Keep your cool. Do not let the delay ruin your day. When the airline people announce that there will be a delay, we  ask the airline staff how long, and when they cannot answer exactly how long it will take us to wait, that means it would not be just an hour or two. A good internet made our day productive, we were able to work on our MBA strama paper.  My seatmate was also doing her office work, she has a  very lucky boss.
  2. Stretch, walk and look for a nearby coffee shop, a cup of coffee can last for an hour with friends.
  3. It is tempting to have a good massage in the airport , but do not do it you do not  know the exact time of departure.
  4. When flight is cancelled as in our case,  immediately go to the airline desk in the airport and  decide to re book flight or refund the ticket
  5. Be aware that if flight is cancelled due to weather you are not entitled to free hotel  and food, so in travelling always have cash or credit card

Temptation

Adam the 1st man who dis obeyed God. They were given freedom to eat everything except for the tree of knowledge of good and evil

Why Adam and Eve  disobey?

Evil works ,  temptation is so subtle. Be wary of lies and deception, it may not appear as it is

Did the Magi visited Jesus in a manger?

Belen or manger scene is a Filipino traditional decor during christmas

It depicts the birth of Jesus Christ . The belen shows Mary, Joseph , Jesus , the angel, sheperds and the 3 wise men with their gifts.

From my chidhood I was made to believe that aside from the shepherds , Jesus had the magi as visitor in the manger . My question is, how long did Mary, Joseph and Jesus stayed in a manger? When did the Magi visited Mary and Jesus? Although not stated in the Bible , but to stay in a manger for a year or two seems not possible. Matthew chapter 2 tells a story about king Herods’ conversation with the Magi . Herod told them to tell him what time they saw a star and he calculated it to be two years , that is why he commanded his men to kill all boys in Bethlehem aging from 2 years down to infants when he realised the Magi deceived him by going out of Bethlehem the other way . Furthermore, Mathew 2: 11 says” on coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary and they bowed down and worship Him”

Base on this I believed that the 3 wise men visited Jesus not on the manger but on their home. Afterall who would stay in a manger for weeks much more so for 2 years. So when I prepare my belen this coming christmas I prefer not to include the 3 wise men.

Crazy NOT Rich Asian

I’m giddy while watching the box office hit Crazy Rich Asian. I had been to some of the places in the movie . Can’t help telling my husband , I’ve been there and expectantly watching the next scene to be the place where I had visited. The movie is a like a tourism promotion of Singapore. Oh ..you don’t have to be rich to be in those places , some are open to public.

Gardens by the bay

No entrance fee in Gardens by the bay. The best to go there is at night.

There are several Merlion in Singapore, but this one near the Esplanade is the most photograph.

It is best to go there early morning or late afternoon. It is so hot at noon and the place is crowded. Everybody wants to have a good picture of Merlion

At about the end of the movie , the pool on the roof top of Marina Bay Sands was shown. The pool is exclusive to guest. There are several high end shops on the ground floor where our eyes feasted on things we can not afford .

That boat shape structure on top of three buildings is the pool exclusive for guest.

High end shops at the ground floor of Marina Bay Sands

The crowd that I mentioned.

Clouds

On domestic flights when I can see the sea of clouds and its shadow that protect the ground from the heat of the sun , reminds me of the story of Israelites coming out of Egypt and walking day and night towards the promised land.

During their journey , God provided them a pillar of clouds during the day. Imagine walking in the desert road on a sunny day. And the cloud is there. What a great comfort. My realization : My God is an awesome God. He always provides and protect His children.

Genesis 13: 21″ by day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way…”

Where to stay in Davao

There are lots of hotels in Davao to choose from , but we are a big group , so we opt to stay in a 4 bedroom Chateau Veronica Appartel for our 3 nights and 4 days stay in Davao City

For only 4,900 php or 94 usd per day we have the entire house . The Chateau Veronica Appartel can accomodate 12 persons , we are 7 so we occupy only 3 rooms and the owner gave us a discount. We only paid n 4000php or 77usd per day, forex rate 52 phil pesos per 1usd.

In the Ist floor are the living room, one bedroom , kitchen and dining. In the second floor are the 3 bedrooms which we occupied. I forget to take pictures of the bedrooms. All rooms are simple but comfortable. This is a budget appartel so we do not expect much.

The kitchen is equipped with rice cooker , and electric stove so we cook our breakfast . Dining and kitchen wares are also available.

There are 2 common bathrooms and 1 in the masters bedroom. They do not provide towels and toiletress .

The Chateau Veronica has several units , all duplex type building.

I like the grill in the front yard.

Heritage of faith

Judges 2:10-11

“After the whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, a new generation grew up, who know neither the Lord nor what He had done for Israel”

“Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baal”

Reflection:

I was raised in a christian home. My father was a pastor in a pioneering church in our small community . I remember when there was no church in our place , we go to the house of our relative for sunday school service. There were only 2 evangelical christian families in our barangay. Our families took turns in conducting bible studies, prayer meetings and sunday services. We were very close not only of blood relation but also of faith.

Every sunday activity is an exciting one for me. As a child who had no immediate neighbor in the massive hacienda, going to the commercial center in our relatives house for sunday activities is a treat.

Attending sunday school and sunday worship molds my character and personality.

Now I am already a mother of three. I feel guilty that I have not passed on the tradition and faith that my father and mother taught us. Seldom do we go to church together. I feel they do not have strong foundation in faith where they can stand and fight for their faith when persecution happens.

I often told them how the love and grace of God sustained me all through the years with detailed and vivid stories of concrete example of how God helped me.

But I think it is not enough. I have not encouraged them enough to pray, go attend Sunday school and other church activities because they have not seen me doing all those things except the going to church every sunday for worship service.

Parents should really walk their talk.

It is not yet late. I can still do what should be done by Gods’ grace. God forbid that my sons and daughter serve “baal” in what ever form

Prayer:

Oh Lord my God when I’m in awesome wonder, when I considered all the things you have done in my life, my praise is not enough to give thanks for every blessing you have given me.

I pray oh Lord that I may pass on to my children the faith that my parents have taught me. The faith in Jesus Christ my savior , redeemer, sustainer who gives me life meaning and purpose.

My God is not stupid

I may not understand everything about my God, but I am sure He is not stupid. How can I understand everything about Him ? My ways are not His ways. And as high as the heaven is from the earth so is His thoughts higher than my thoughts.

My God created the heaven as His throne , and earth as His foot stool . He created me , a human being , with free will and concience and assign a number of days for me to stay on earth. And because I am a mere created being of the supreme and powerful God who judges persons and nations, I am trying my very best to do what pleases Him. I afraid of the thought on judgement day when my God will say ” I never knew you, away from me you evildoers” Matthew 7:23(NIV)

My God loves me I’m sure of that. He send His only Son Jesus to die on the cross for my sins. You may call that stupidity , but I call it grace. Such grace sustains me. I am not worthy of His love, I have offended Him many times, have not obeyed Him countless times, but He loves me just the same. I am loved not because I am good. But because He loves me and I choose to accept that love. He is not stupid in loving me.

Common Misconception

I’ts Saturday and I love our brunch conversation with my daughter on this topic .

“To say that the phrase “money is the root of all evil” comes from the Bible is false. It has been a common misconception that 1 Timothy talked about evil this plainly and it is humorous how something as big as evil can come from a man made printed paper.

1 Timothy 6:10 says “For the LOVE OF MONEY is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” The complete phrase shows that instead of a man made object, man themselves, with their choice in their words and works, is the source.” she said

I agree with her, in fact the ability to acquire wealth is a God given talent. Our God who is a great provider wants us to live abundantly so that we can be a channel of blessings to others. It is the LOVE OF MONEY not the money itself is evil.
